Economic cooperation, human development on top of talks of Egypt's FM, Namibian, Ivorian, Kenyan counterparts

CAIRO – 25 August 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expats Badr Abdelatty met Sunday with Namibian, Ivorian, and Kenyan counterparts on the sidelines of TICAD's ministerial meeting held in Tokyo.

The Egyptian minister thanked Namibian counterpart Peya Mushelenga for allocating two land plots to the Egyptian Church to build medical and educational centers in Ondangwa. The two ministers agreed on starting to prepare for holding the fifth session of the joint committee to examine the progress rate of the implementation of MoUs and cooperation programmes.

 

In that context, Minister Abdelatty expressed the desire of a number of Egyptian firms to increase their investments in Namibia, especially in infrastructure, seaports, and roads. On his side, the Namibian minister expressed interest in an exchange of experience on green hydrogen, cybersecurity, agriculture, and agro-processing. 

 

In his meeting with his Ivorian counterpart Kacou Houadja Léon Adom, Minister Abdelatty also expressed Egypt's readiness to participate in the country's development plan concerning infrastructure, energy, seaport development, shipping, and pharmaceuticals. He also commended the resumption of direct flights between the two countries in July after a hiatus that began during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Kenya

 

Similarly, Minister Abdelatty and Kenyan counterpart Musalia Mudavadi agreed on prioritizing bolstering trade and investments between the two countries as well as exchanging technical expertise on healthcare, transport, energy, infrastructure, agriculture and irrigation among others.

 

The Egyptian minister also discussed with the three ministers a number of African and Middle East issues underscoring the importance of continuous joint consultation and coordination.
