CAIRO – 25 August 2024: Cairo is observing the progress of French investigations into the sudden passing of Reem Ahmed, a young Egyptian researcher who tragically lost her life in France.

Speculations surrounding the circumstances of her death have emerged on social media platforms.

In remarks to Egypt Today on Sunday, the Consulate General of Egypt in Paris confirmed that it has initiated immediate communication with French authorities, which emphasized that investigations are actively underway to ascertain the cause behind Reem's passing.

The consulate further stated its commitment to closely monitoring the essential procedures in collaboration with the French authorities to facilitate the repatriation of Reem's body back to Egypt for burial, as requested by her family.

Recent social media posts attributed to the 29-year-old lady have circulated, where she voiced concerns about being followed and harassed both at her residence and in public spaces.

These posts reportedly were removed prior to the news of her passing, leaving room for widespread speculation until the investigation outcomes are officially disclosed.

Reem's brother, Nader Hamed, has appealed to the public to refrain from discussing unverified details concerning his sister's demise, emphasizing the potential harm caused by spreading unsubstantiated information about Reem.

He implored social media users to keep their mother in their thoughts and prayers, urging them to cease discussing Reem's case, which remains under investigation.

"If people truly care for Reem, I ask that they refrain from discussing unconfirmed matters and a case that is under investigation and that we stop sharing her old posts and messages,” Nader Hamed wrote on social media.

He asked the public to respect Reem's privacy during this sensitive time, noting that he will definitely communicate any significant developments in the case once available.

Reem was an Egyptian PhD researcher in France, living in Les Ulis in the southwestern suburbs of Paris. She hed Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in biotechnology.
