CAIRO – 25 August 2024: President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi received Sunday U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Brown Jr. to hold talks on the current military tensions in the Middle East.
President Sisi underscored that the international community must take a firm stance and exert more pressure to accomplish de-escalation, warning of the perils of opening a new front in Lebanon whose stability and sovereignty should be preserved.
The president also implied that Israel had to be responsive to the U.S.-Egyptian-Qatari ceasefire mediation. In that respect, he noted the tragic humanitarian conditions endured by Palestinians in Gaza, which necessitate ending the war in order to deliver sufficient quantities of aid.
The Egyptian president equally asserted the two-state solution as a cornerstone for sustainable regional stability. In turn, Brown expressed appreciation for Egypt's role in supporting peace in the Middle East, and aspiration to push forward bilateral military cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Defense Abdel Meguid Sakr and U.S. Ambassador Herro Mostafa.
