CAIRO – 25 August 2024: Egypt is following with great concern the ongoing escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli front, and calls for concerting international and regional efforts to reduce tensions and instability in the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Sunday.

Egypt warned of the risks of opening a new front in Lebanon, stressing the importance of preserving the stability and sovereignty of Lebanon, and avoiding the region's implication in a state of overacrching instability.

The statement noted that the perilous and accelerated developments experienced by southern Lebanon were considered a clear evidence of what Egypt had warned about regarding an irresponsible escalation in the region ensuing from the Gaza War and Israeli aggression against Palestinians.

Egypt reiterated the salience of ending the war in Gaza in order to avoid threats to international peace and security.

Early in the morning, the 100 Israeli fighter jets struck thousands of the rocket launchers belonging to Hezbollah, killing three. The Israeli military described the operation as an act of self-defense incurred by detecting moves to launch an aerial attack on the country.

In turn, the militia announced that it had fired hundreds of rockets towards northern Israel, causing no casualties, naming it first phase of a multi-stage retaliatory attack to avenge the death of a senior commander, as reported by the BBC.
