CAIRO – 22 August 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty is en route to Japan to participate in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting slated for 24-25 August.
During his visit, Abdelatty will hold discussions with high-ranking Japanese officials to bolster the bilateral relations between Egypt and Japan, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs in a statement released on Thursday.
Notably, Abdelatty is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, alongside the speaker of the House of Representatives, the national security advisor, the governor of Tokyo, and the president of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Additionally, the foreign minister will engage with key members of the Egyptian community in Japan and take part in activities aimed at enhancing economic and investment ties between the two nations.
The primary focus of the TICAD Ministerial Meeting 2024 is to delineate medium and long-term development priorities in the upcoming years for the partnership between Africa and Japan, said Spokesman of the Egyptian foreign minister, Ahmed Abu Zeid.
This initiative aims to foster comprehensive growth and sustainable development in Africa, aligning with the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, while also devising innovative solutions for global challenges that particularly impact Africa.
The meeting will follow up on the implementation of the outcomes of the TICAD 8 summit held in Tunisia in August 2022 and lay the groundwork for TICAD 9 scheduled to convene in August 2025 in Yokohama city of Japan.
This conference, spearheaded by Japan and co-organized with the United Nations, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and the African Union Commission (AUC), will witness the participation of delegations comprising African foreign ministers, international organizations, African regional bodies, the private sector, civil society, among others.
TICAD serves as a platform for deliberating on the development in Africa.
