Egypt's FM receives Secretary of Fatah Central Committee

CAIRO - 21 August 2024: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, received Wednesday Lieutenant General Jibril Rajoub, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Fatah Movement, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, stated that the meeting witnessed the Minister of Foreign Affairs reviewing Egypt's contacts with various parties to stop the war in the Gaza Strip and reach a deal under which a ceasefire will be reached in Gaza and prisoners and detainees will be exchanged.
 
During the meeting, the Egyptian Minister stressed Egypt's categorical rejection of any plans to displace Palestinian citizens from their lands, in addition to Egypt's keenness on the full implementation of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip without obstacles.
 
Minister Abdel Aati was also keen to learn about the vision and assessment of the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Fatah Movement on the developments in the field and humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and ways to deal with the humanitarian catastrophe facing the Palestinian people, as Lieutenant General Rajoub presented a comprehensive presentation of the Palestinian situation in general and the challenges facing the Palestinian cause and ways to deal with them during the next stage.
 
The official spokesman added that Dr. Abdel-Ati reviewed the efforts undertaken by Egypt to mobilize support for the recognition of the Palestinian state on the international scene, and the contacts it is conducting with all countries to convey its vision of the necessity of working to find a permanent and just solution to the Palestinian issue by establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
 
For his part, the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Fatah Movement praised Egypt's important and pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian issue, and its efforts to deal with the crisis in the Gaza Strip and its security and humanitarian repercussions.
 
The two sides also agreed on the importance of any proposal to resolve the Palestinian issue being based on the unity of the Palestinian territories, and relying on the relevant international legitimacy resolutions, in addition to what the current challenges dictate regarding the necessity of Palestinian unity, and strengthening the role of the National Authority, in a way that ensures the achievement of the aspirations and hopes of the Palestinian people.
