CAIRO – 17 August 2024: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for exerting and unifying all international efforts of the ongoing negotiations to reach an agreement that stops the bloodshed and prevent military escalation in the region, said the Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy in a Press release
In his meeting with French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné and the accompanying delegation on Saturday at the Presidential Palace in Cairo, President Sisi affirmed that the continuation of the war in the Gaza Strip drags the region into a vicious and dangerous cycle of instability.
President Sisi also added that the international community is responsible for practicing leverage to reduce escalation and address the roots of this conflict by establishing the Palestinian state and implementing the two-state solution.
For his part, Stéphane Séjourné agreed with President Sisi regarding the importance of the establishment of the Palestinian state and the implementation of the two-state solution. The French Minister stressed his country's full support for Egypt’s efforts of de-escalation and praised the vital role played by Egypt in the joint mediation with Qatar and the United States, to reach an agreement to cease fire in the Gaza Strip and exchange hostages.
The French Minister conveyed French President Emmanuel Macron's greetings to President Sisi, noting that President Macron assigned him to conduct a regional tour to contribute to efforts to reduce tension and push towards calm.
The official spokesman added that the meeting also addressed affirming the strength and solidity of the Egyptian-French strategic partnership and joint work to develop and deepen the frameworks of bilateral cooperation in various fields, in a way that achieves the interests of the two peoples.
