CAIRO – 15 August 2024:  Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said on Thursday said Egypt's foreign policy is governed by its national security interest, stressing the country's keenness on achieving strategic balance in its relations with international powers.

Abdelatty made the remarks during his meeting with a delegation representing the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee.

Foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Abdelatty reiterated the ministry's keenness on fostering relations with the parliament, adding that necessary directives were given to all sectors at the ministry to work for enhancing relations with Egypt's upper house of parliament.

The spokesman said the two sides exchanged viewpoints towards a number of regional and international issues of importance to Egypt's foreign policy, especially the war in Gaza. Abdelatty reviewed contacts with a number of regional and international sides to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and de-escalate the situation, he added.

The delegation underlined the importance of enhancing relations with the African continent, lauding tours made by Abdelatty since assuming his post of a number of African states, according to Abu Zeid.

Abdelatty shared the delegation's viewpoint, underlining the importance of engaging the private sector more in development

projects in Africa in a way that serves the interests of both Egypt as well as fellow African states, he said.

Talks also tackled relations between Egypt and the European Union after upgrading relations to the level of strategic partnership, the spokesman also said, adding that the two sides agreed on increasing meetings between Egyptian lawmakers and their European counterparts within the coming period.
