CAIRO - 14 August 2024: Global reports revealed that Egypt topped the ranking of average landline internet speeds in Africa, according to the Speedtest Global Internet Performance Index report last June.
Egypt also came in second place in Africa and fifth in the world in terms of the low cost of high-speed internet, according to a report published by the Business Insider website, with an average cost of $8.31 per month.
A report by the Speedtest Global Internet Performance Index revealed that Egypt's ranking advanced by 8 places in the global ranking in terms of average speeds, to occupy first place in Africa and 71st globally with a speed of 80 megabits per second last June instead of 79th place last May.
According to a report by the "Business Insider" website, Egypt ranked second in Africa in terms of the low cost of high-speed internet, after Sudan, which came in first place as the cheapest globally and in Africa, followed by Zimbabwe, the Republic of the Congo, Tunisia, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Libya, Algeria and Nigeria in third to tenth place in the African continent.
The website indicated that this low cost will contribute significantly to supporting the national economy, enhancing entrepreneurship and supporting the digital transformation process and the resulting changes that benefit individuals, companies and entire economies, especially in a young continent like Africa.
This achievement comes in light of the efforts made by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology through the Egyptian Telecom Company to improve the quality of internet services in Egypt by developing the infrastructure throughout the republic and providing it with the latest communications technology in the world, such as fiber optic technology.
