CAIRO – 14 August 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty underlined on Wednesday the importance of securing an immediate and full ceasefire in Gaza as well as unrestricted access of humanitarian assistance.
He also underlined the need to positively deal with Egyptian-Qatari-US mediation efforts and seriously engage in ceasefire negotiations as they are the only way to end escalation in the region and contain attempts to expand the cycle of conflict.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a phone call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said the two sides reviewed underway efforts to contain the current escalation in the region and reach ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The contact also tackled efforts to solve the crisis in Sudan in light of Geneva meetings as Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's support of all efforts aiming at reaching a ceasefire in Sudan and putting an end to Sudanese' sufferings.
Blinken renewed appreciation for Egypt's role to achieve security and stability in the region.
The spokesman said the two ministers discussed a number of topics with an emphasis on strategic relations binding the two countries. They agreed on maintaining coordination and consultations within the coming period
