CAIRO – 13 August 2024: Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud is expected to arrive in Egypt, Tuesday, on an official visit during which he will meet with President Abdel Fattah al Sisi, according to Somalia's Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League Ali Abdi Aware.
The Somali ambassador said in a statement that President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud visit comes within the framework of the solid Egyptian-Somali relations, and will witness the signing of a military cooperation agreement to enhance cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
Ambassador Aware also stressed the importance of this historic visit, which comes at a very sensitive time and in light of unprecedented regional and international challenges that require enhancing cooperation and coordination with Egypt, appreciating the pivotal role played by Egypt in supporting Somalia in facing current challenges.
On Sunday, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expats Badr Abdelatty met with Somalian President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud on the sidelines of the oath ceremony of the Rwandan president.
Minister Abdelatty delivered the greetings of President Abdel Fatah al Sisi, and expressed Egypt's commitment to continue elevating relations with Somalia in all fields.
The minister equally stressed Egypt's backing to Somalia's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, which was valued by President Mahmoud.
