CAIRO – 12 August 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expats Badr Abdelatty and renowned Heart Surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub attended Monday the ceremony held to mark the launch of constructions of the MY Rwanda-Egypt Heart Center.
The event was attended by the Rwandan health minister and other senior healthcare officials as well as the Egyptian ambassador to Kigali. They all held talks on joint cooperation, and signed an MoU on collaboration between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the Rwanda Food and Drug Authority.
The also signed contracts for supplying medical equipment to the MY Rwanda-Egypt Heart Center through funding by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD).
Minister Abdelatty expressed appreciation for Sir Magdy Yacoub who began setting plans to establish the center in 2018, and whose efforts came into fruition in June 2021 when an MoU was signed on the project. The minister said he looked forward to the completion of the project, and overcoming any obstacles that might arise.
Earlier, the foreign ministers of both Egypt and Rwanda attended the signing of an MoU on cooperation in the transport sector, and announced Rwanda's allocation of a land plot for Egypt to establish a logistic zone on the borders with Tanzania.
