CAIRO – 12 August 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expats Badr Abdelatty invited his Tanzanian counterpart Mahmoud Kombo to visit Egypt.
The two ministers met Sunday in Kigali on the sidelines of the oath ceremony of the Rwnadan President, as the Egyptian minister asked his counterpart to deliver the greetings of President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi to the Tanzanian president.
The two diplomats conferred over bilateral relations so as Minister Abdelatty expressed aspiration to bolster trade exchange and joint investments. He also stressed the necessity of building upon existing projects such as the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP).
The JNHPP – situated on the Rufiji River – can generate up to 2,115 MW through nine Turbines. The capacity of its reservoir is 34 billion cubic meters, contributing to the protection of residents from floods.
The dam, whose construction began in 2019, was implemented by the Egyptian consortium of Arab Contractors and El Sewedy Electric at a cost of $2.9 billion.
