Egyptian President Sisi receives a phone call from French President Macron - file

CAIRO - 8 August 2024: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received a phone call Thursday evening from French President Emmanuel Macron, where the call witnessed discussions on the latest regional and international developments. 
 
The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency stated that during the call, Mr. President reviewed the intensive Egyptian contacts with all parties to stop the ongoing escalation in the region, and avoid slipping into a new circle of uncalculated conflict that threatens to erupt into a comprehensive regional confrontation, which what Egypt has warned against throughout the past months. 
 
According to the spokesperson, President Sisi stressed the importance of concerted international efforts to push forward the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, as the continuation of the war in the Strip is the basis of the current escalation in the region, and affirming the responsibility that falls on the shoulders of the international community to reduce the escalation, and address the roots of this conflict by establishing a sovereign Palestinian state and implementing the two-state solution.
 
The official spokesman added that President Macron appreciated the tireless and sincere efforts made by Egypt since the outbreak of the crisis, and the two presidents agreed to intensify efforts and intensive coordination during the coming period in order to ensure the security and stability of the region, and prevent the expansion of the conflict that threatens the capabilities of the peoples of the region, in addition to stressing the importance of delivering humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities to all areas of the Gaza Strip, and ensuring that the access of aid is not affected by developments in the region.
