CAIRO – 7 August 2024: Lebanese Information Minister Ziad Makary stated that the Lebanese government began its operations following the Al-Aqsa flood, forming a crisis cell that includes most ministers involved in this crisis, as well as all delegates from UN missions in Lebanon.

In a special interview on "al-Qahera News", he mentioned that the crisis cell meetings are ongoing, focusing on the situation of Lebanese refugees, protection measures, and the adequacy of medicines, food supplies, and hospitals. Various scenarios are being considered, including the possibility of war with Israel.

Makary emphasized that while countries do not desire war, it would be in Israel's interest rather than Lebanon's. He stated, "If war breaks out, it is our duty to address it, especially since it would be destructive and no one seeks it."

The Lebanese Information Minister noted that Egypt's presence on the scene is more pronounced than in the past. However, he highlighted the challenge of dealing with an Israeli enemy that lacks ethics.

Makary pointed out the paradox of having negotiations while there are ongoing attacks against Hamas, including the assassination of its leaders. He underscored that Israel does not aim for moderation or calm.

He added that there were previously respected rules of engagement geographically, with assassinations occurring in specific areas. However, these rules were broken with the assassination of Fuad Shukr in Beirut's southern suburbs, indicating a breach of geographical norms. The response, he noted, depends on specific military, security, and intelligence considerations.
