CAIRO – 6 August 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday discussed in a phone call with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East region and preventing the expansion of the current conflict.

During the phone conversation, Abdelatty briefed Wang on his contacts in the past few days with the foreign ministers of concerned and influential countries to contain the aggravating regional situation, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The top Egyptian diplomat warned about the risks of widening the conflict and its dire consequences for regional security and stability, affirming that Egypt has been keen since the outbreak of the crisis to work together with China and all influential regional and international countries to stop the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip and prevent the expansion of the conflict.

Abdelatty underlined that the Israeli policy of political assassinations and its violation of states' sovereignty have exacerbated the crisis and significantly raised regional tensions.

The spokesman noted that the top Egyptian diplomat praised China's endeavors to achieve a Palestinian reconciliation, asserting Egypt's keenness to coordinate and cooperate with the Chinese side to support Palestinians' rights and end the war in Gaza, as well as to foster regional stability.

On his part, the Chinese foreign minister was updated on the negotiations sponsored by Egypt, Qatar and the US to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and ensure safe and urgent access of humanitarian aid to the residents of the Israeli-besieged enclave.

Regarding bilateral ties, the spokesman stated that the Egyptian foreign minister lauded the deep-rooted relations between Egypt and China, emphasizing the importance of building on the momentum generated by periodic visits by the two countries' officials, as well as the launching of the Egypt-China Partnership Year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership initiated in 2014.

The Egyptian foreign minister said he looks forward to visiting China in the coming period to hold a new round of strategic dialogue with his Chinese counterpart.

Wang expressed hope for working with Abdelatty to advance Egyptian-Chinese relations to broader horizons, and to continue close coordination and consultation on the most prominent regional and international issues.
