CAIRO- 5 August 2024: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting today, Sunday, at the government headquarters in New Alamein City to consider the proposed procedures for governing the subsidized baby formula distribution system and exploring ways to increase production, said the cabinet in a statement on Sunday.

 

He highlighted directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the importance of coordinating and cooperating among national authorities to enhance local baby milk production, the cabinet added.

 

The goal is to incorporate advanced technology in this field to establish a robust base for producing high-quality milk, meeting local needs, and reducing reliance on imports of this essential strategic commodity for feeding children at various stages of development, the cabinet continued.

 

The Cabinet spokesman Mohamed El Homosany mentioned that the meeting with Prime and the concerned Ministers and officials discussed the possibility of offering various types of milk packages at affordable prices and making them available to underserved groups based on specific criteria.

 

The official spokesman added that the meeting also reviewed the progress of the Lacto-Misr Company in enhancing its baby milk production capacity, focusing on the procedures for increasing output.

 

Cases for approving milk dispensing were noted, including situations where there are twins or multiple infants, the mother has a chronic illness requiring long-term medication that affects breastfeeding and could harm the child, the mother has ceased breastfeeding for a month or more, or in the event of the mother's death.

 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population; Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport; Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs; and Major General Magdy Anwar, Director General of the National Service Projects Authority of the Armed Forces.
