CAIRO – 3 August 2024: Three individual were killed as a building in the Al-Sahel area of the Rod El-Farag district in Cairo collapsed on Saturday. The deceased include a 15-year old girl.

Seven people were rescued from beneath the debris of the building, according to a statement by the governorate.

The injured have been transferred to Nasser Institute Hospital, while civil protection, central rescue teams, and government authorities continue their search for potential individuals trapped beneath the rubble.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a resident on the first floor demolished a load-bearing internal wall without authorization for expansion purposes, leading to the structural failure, according to the governorate.

Governor Ibrahim Saber has mandated the formation of an engineering committee to assess the collapsed building and its adjacent structures.

In a precautionary move, neighboring buildings have been evacuated to evaluate the impact of the collapse on them.

The governor has instructed the provision of heightened medical care for the injured and immediate assistance for those impacted.

The Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into the collapse.
