CAIRO – 3 August 2024: The Egyptian Cabinet's Media Center refuted claims circulating on social media about the government's plans to sell Egyptian airports to foreign entities.

The Cabinet's Media Center reached out to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which confirmed that the reports were false and that there is no intention to sell Egyptian airports to foreign parties, the Center said in a statement on Saturday.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation emphasized that Egyptian airports are entirely state-owned and under Egyptian sovereignty.

The government is actively implementing a comprehensive strategy to enhance airport efficiency and capacity. This strategy includes various infrastructure development projects, upgrading security systems, and modernizing all security devices at Egyptian airports.

Additionally, the state is expanding flight networks by opening new markets and supporting low-cost aviation activities.

The ministry also noted its goal to offer the management and operation of airports to the private sector.  The ministry said that it believes that the private sector is best positioned to handle various projects and facilities, which will help attract additional investments and maximize economic returns in the air transport sector. This approach aligns with the state's policies to increase private sector participation in management and operations.
