CAIRO – 2 August 2024: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, made a phone call to Ms. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament on Thursday.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that Minister Abdel-Aty congratulated Ms. Metsola on her re-election as President of the European Parliament.
This re-election signifies the parliament members' confidence in her leadership for the new term, Abu Zeid added.
Minister Abdel-Aty also expressed gratitude for the European Parliament’s support of Egypt and its understanding of the regional conflicts and disputes that impact Egypt's economy and security.
During the call, Minister Abdel-Aty extended an invitation from Egyptian Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr. Hanafi Gebali for Ms. Metsola to visit Egypt.
This visit aims to sustain the momentum in bilateral relations and enhance coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest, given the shared challenges, closer collaboration between Egypt and the European Union is essential, Abu Zeid said.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that Minister Abdel-Aty highlighted the unprecedented development in relations between Egypt and the European Union, especially following the upgrade to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
This partnership is intended to deepen cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and genuine collaboration, he continued.
The recent Egyptian-European Investment Conference held last June and ongoing successes in combating illegal immigration and terrorism exemplify this partnership. The Minister also expressed hope that President Metsola would continue her influential role in supporting the Egyptian-European partnership, particularly during the discussions on the European funding package for Egypt.
