Abu Zeid was also named as a non-resident Ambassador to the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Ambassador of Egypt to the European Council and the European Commission, and Egypt's Representative to NATO.
Abu Zeid is currently the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates and the Director of the Public Diplomacy Department.
Abu Zeid has a 31 year experience in the diplomatic and government work.
He assumed several posts, including Egypt's ambassador to Canada from 2018 to 2022 and the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry from 2015 to 2018.
He served also the adviser for African affairs of the foreign minister's office for almost 10 years.
He served as part of several Egyptian diplomatic missions abroad, including the Egyptian embassy in Washington, Egypt's permanent mission to the UN in New York and the Egyptian general consulate in San Francisco.
Abu Zeid's appointment came on the back of selecting Badr Abdelatty to assume the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Egyptian Expatriates as Abdelatty was Egypt's ambassador to Belgium, non-resident Ambassador to Luxembourg, Ambassador of Egypt to the European Council and the European Commission, and Egypt's Representative to NATO.
The appointment comes at a time when Egyptian-EU relations are witnessing a leap at the level of comprehensive strategic partnership.
