Egyptian Minister of Communication Amr Talaat - file
CAIRO - 30 July 2024: Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Amr Talaat held a number of meetings in the Chinese capital, Beijing, with officials from a number of Chinese companies to discuss opportunities for cooperation and investment in the field of electronics design and manufacturing.
Dr. Amr Talaat met with Brighton Lee, Chairman of Tsinghua Unigroup, and a number of the company's leaders. The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation by establishing a center for research and development for semiconductors, artificial intelligence and data centers for cloud computing for the company in Egypt.
The meeting highlighted the competitive advantages that Egypt enjoys in the field of outsourcing, most notably the abundance of young cadres and the efficiency of Egyptian engineers at a competitive cost, especially in the fields of electronic circuit design and semiconductors.
The efforts made to enhance Egypt's position in the field of exporting high-value services were also reviewed in light of working to make Egypt a global center in these promising industries, within the framework of the presidential initiative "Egypt Makes Electronics".
Dr. Amr Talaat also held a meeting with Zhou Ziyong Wei, Executive Vice President of CETC, and a number of the company's leaders, where the meeting discussed opportunities for cooperation in the semiconductor design center, cybersecurity, and solar panel manufacturing.
In a related context, Dr. Amr Talaat discussed with Nakai Bai, Vice President of FiberHome, a leading provider of communications equipment, network solutions, and fiber optic cables, opportunities for expanding the company's local manufacturing activities in Egypt.
The meeting highlighted the capabilities that Egypt enjoys in the field of electronics design and manufacturing, and the efforts made to make Egypt a global destination and business services center for electronics companies.
Dr. Amr Talaat also held a meeting with Anthony Yu, Head of Business at XFusion in the Middle East and Africa, a leading global company in the field of providing infrastructure and cloud computing services; where the meeting discussed opportunities for cooperation with the company to establish a production line for computer servers in Egypt.
The meetings were attended by Dr. Heba Saleh, Head of the Information Technology Institute, Eng. Yasser Abdel Bary, Head of the Electronics Industry Program at the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), and Samah Aziz, Supervisor of the Central Administration for International Relations at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
These meetings come within the framework of Dr. Amr Talaat's visit to China to participate in the activities of the China-Africa Digital Cooperation Forum, as the visit agenda includes meeting officials from a number of major global technology companies to discuss opportunities for cooperation and investment in the Egyptian communications and information technology sector.
