Egypt’s El-Alamein camel racing kicks off with 1,600 participants

CAIRO - 30 July 2024: On Tuesday, a new camel racing event began in the city of Alamein at the Sidi Abdel Rahman racing grounds. Eid Hamdan Al-Muzaini, Chairman of the Egyptian Camel Racing Federation, announced that these activities are being organized with support from the UAE Camel Racing Federation.

 

Al-Muzaini explained that camel riders from all governorates have registered for the race, with approximately 1,600 camels participating. The competitions commenced this morning.

 

Sheikh Salama Ibrahim Abu Al-Nada, Chairman of the Competition Committee of the Egyptian Camel Racing Federation, stated that the race started today, Tuesday, and will continue until Wednesday with 32 rounds. The rounds are categorized by the age of the participating camels. Today's events include 10 rounds in the morning and 9 rounds in the evening. The second day will feature 9 rounds in the morning and 4 rounds in the evening.

 

A technical committee from the UAE Camel Racing Federation is overseeing the race at the Alamein Camel Racing grounds. Preparations for the race began a week ago after the Egyptian Camel Racing Federation announced the opening of registration for camel riders.

 

The racing grounds welcomed camel riders from the governorates of North and South Sinai, Ismailia, Sharqia, Suez, Matrouh, New Valley, Luxor, Minya, Cairo, and Giza. The riders were accompanied by their owners, trainers, and support staff. They set up tents around the racing area and provided their participating camels with training, nutritional care, and veterinary services in preparation for the competition.
