CAIRO – 29 July 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdel-Aty affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Lebanon amid the Lebanese Hezbollah-Israeli potential military escalation on the borders following an attack on Druze twon of Majdal Shams in Syria’s occupied Golan.

 

Abdel-Aty’s statement was given during phone calls Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib, stated Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

 

During these calls, Abdel-Aty expressed Egypt's rejection of any threats aimed at destabilizing Lebanon or compromising its people's safety.

 

Minister Abdel-Aty also voiced deep concern over the ongoing escalation between Hezbollah and Israel and its potential impact on Lebanon's security and stability.

 

The Minister briefed the Lebanese officials on Egypt's efforts to engage with various parties to contain the escalation, prevent the region from descending into a large-scale conflict, and emphasize the importance of supporting the Lebanese state and safeguarding the interests of its people amidst the surrounding threats.

 

The Lebanese officials expressed their deep appreciation for Egypt's support and solidarity during these critical times.

 

They acknowledged the efforts of Egypt’s leadership and people in protecting Lebanese interests and ensuring the stability of the country. It was agreed to continue consultations to coordinate efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and resolving the current crisis.

 

On Saturday, a rocket assault on a soccer field in the Druze town has killed 12 children and left 20 individuals wounded, according to Israeli reports.

 

Israel blamed Hezbollah for the attack, vowing that “Hezbollah will pay a heavy price which it has not paid up to now.” However, Hezbollah accused denied Israeli claims and accused Israeli forces of launching the rocket.

 

Furthermore, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that any significant Israeli attack against Lebanon can lead to a regional war, reported Al Qahera News.

 

 

Meanwhile, several flights have been cancelled at Beirut International Airport as other European countries like Germany and Italy urged their citizens to leave Lebanon.

 

Both Hezbollah fighters in Southern Lebanon and Israeli forces on alert for escalating the military clashes along the borders.
