CAIRO - 25 July 2024: The Minister of Local Development, Dr. Manal Awad, and the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Engineer Sharif El-Sherbiny, met in the New Alamein City to discuss joint cooperation between the two ministries.
A key focus of the meeting was Egypt's preparations to host the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) in November 2024, in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
Dr. Awad and Engineer El-Sherbiny reviewed the important steps and procedures taken in coordination between the two ministries and the outcomes of coordination meetings with UN-Habitat officials, the forum's organizing company, and relevant Egyptian ministries and agencies.
Both ministers agreed to continue coordination to ensure the success of the forum and present a distinguished image of Egypt, under the continuous follow-up of the political leadership and the Prime Minister on all developments related to Egypt's hosting of the upcoming forum.
The meeting also addressed the implementation status of several cooperation projects in the fields of sanitation and drinking water, which are being implemented in rural areas of the governorates.
Moreover, the meeting reviewed the implementation status of government service complexes in the villages of the presidential initiative "Decent Life," which are being implemented by the Central Agency for Reconstruction in the governorates of Aswan, Luxor, Assiut, Beni Suef, Fayoum, Qalyubia, Gharbia, Kafr El Sheikh, and Damietta, as well as the status of implementing markets, parking lots, and fire stations in some governorates, which are being implemented through the reconstruction agencies affiliated with the Ministry of Housing.
The ministers discussed the ongoing preparations for the second phase of the presidential initiative "Decent Life" and the ongoing coordination between the Central Unit for the Initiative at the Ministry of Local Development and the National Water Supply and Sanitation Projects Authority regarding the provision of the required lands for treatment and pumping stations, where about 400 land plots have been provided so far to the authority, and the remaining required land plots are being completed.
