CAIRO – 23 July 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday received a phone call from German Chancellor's Foreign and Security Policy Advisor Jens Plötner.

Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said Abdelatty thanked Plötner for extending congratulations to him on his new post, lauding the special nature of Egyptian-German relations and Germany's support for Egypt in the face of challenges.

The German official highlighted Egypt's pivotal role amid the current regional situation, asserting that preserving Egypt's stability and backing it at the political, economic and military levels, are necessary for maintaining the regional stability.

The spokesman added that the top Egyptian diplomat urged Germany to accelerate the provision of financing packages approved by the EU, especially as Egypt experiences economic challenges as a result of the escalation of crises in the region.

In this regard, the foreign minister spoke about the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, underlining the importance of sending a strong message by major European countries, through recognizing a Palestinian state and pushing forward the two-state solution.

Abdelatty indicated the recent Israeli Knesset's decisions to reject the establishment of a Palestinian state and consider the UNRWA as a terrorist organization, represent a serious setback to the gains achieved by the international community in past years with regard to the two-state solution.

The spokesman noted that the foreign minister told the German official that Egypt hosted a conference that brought together all Sudanese political and civilian powers to bridge gaps among them and affirm the significance of the peaceful settlement of the Sudanese crisis based on a purely Sudanese vision.

On his part, Plötner expressed appreciation of Egypt's key role in efforts aimed at resolving different regional crises, notably the Palestinian issue and the Sudanese conflict.

The two sides agreed to maintain communication during the next period to advance Egyptian-German relations and enhance bilateral consultation on regional issues of mutual concern.
