Egypt releases 79 defendants pending investigation into charges of spreading false news

CAIRO - 22 July 2024: The Egyptian authorities have decided to release 79 detainees under the guarantee of his place of residence pending investigations by the Public Prosecution.

They stand accused of spreading false news that could disrupt public peace.

Earlier, these authorities had charged the defendants with crimes related to disseminating false information that posed a threat to public peace.

The charges also included calls to suspend constitutional and legal provisions, as well as obstructing the work of state institutions and public authorities.
