CAIRO – 22 July 2024: Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid has slammed an Israeli attack on a humanitarian relief convoy belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) heading to the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.
In a statement posted on X platform, Abu Zeid described the attack as a new chapter in daily Israeli violations of international humanitarian law.
He said that targeting humanitarian aid shipments and denying their entry into the Palestinian enclave worsens the humanitarian disaster the Palestinian people are enduring.
Earlier Monday, the Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, said that there was a heavy shooting from Israeli forces at a UN convoy heading to Gaza on Sunday.
Lazzarini explained that, although no casualties were recorded, the UNRWA teams wearing UN vests and travelling in clearly marked UN armoured cars had to take cover.
