CAIRO – 17 July 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expats Badr Abdel Aty received Wednesday a phone call from his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock to discuss Middle East crises.
The German minister underscored the importance of stability in the Middle East for her country, expressing appreciation for Egypt's efforts on that front in spite of the divergent stances on some issues.
Baerbock expressed her country's care about the humanitarian status of Gaza Strip, and gratitude to Egypt for playing a role in alleviating the suffering of its residents. In that context, the Egyptian foreign minister displayed the country's role in brokering ceasefire negotiations.
The talks also tapped on the ongoing civil war in Sudan so as Minister Abdel Aty underscored that Egypt brought together, for the first time since the outbreak of fighting, Sudanese political powers to put forward visions on resolving the issue.
The minister also highlighted the perilous humanitarian conditions in Sudan, and their impact on doubling the numbers of refugees and displaced.
On another level, Minister Abdel Aty underlined the importance of building upon the EU-Egypt Investment Conference held in June, and upon the participation of German firms in national mega projects.
