CAIRO – 15 July 2024: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi received on Monday the players and coaches who won golden medals in the African Games.
The president's meeting with the Egyptian athletes came in recognition of their achievements, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
In a short speech, President Sisi welcomed the players and coaches, expressing his happiness to meet them, saying: “Congratulations on what you have achieved.”
“You made us all happy, and all the Egyptians who saw the results you achieved, and what is possible to be achieved in the future as well. May God grant us success in Paris,” President Sisi said.
President Sisi also thanked the technical and administrative staff who worked in arranging everything related to the players, saying, “I thank you for the great effort”.
“We always say that sports reflect the extent of civilized countries and people. Obtaining medals always reflects a country's ability to compete, participate and obtain medals,” Sisi said
He added, “In Egypt, we are a big population, and therefore our chances of having distinguished players are great if there are suitable opportunities for them in all games.
I am happy with everything you have achieved so far and I will be much happier with good results internationally and not just in Africa.”
President Sisi stressed that the civilized behavior of the players reflects a good image of Egypt and their keenness on fair competition and good morals.
