CAIRO – 14 July 2024: The Cairo Criminal Court, sitting in the Fifth Settlement, has sentenced an Uber driver to 15 years in prison. The driver was accused of assaulting a girl and threatening her with a knife in Nasr City.
The Public Prosecution’s investigations revealed that the victim had hailed the accused's car using the Uber smart transportation application. The accused then closed the application to avoid being tracked, and diverted from the intended route, taking her to a remote desert road away from public view. Subsequently, he stopped the car, exited the driver's seat, and assaulted the victim as she resisted.
During the assault, she sustained injuries and was threatened with a knife. Two witnesses helped the victim who called out for help, and then the accused to flee the scene.
