CAIRO – 12 July 2024: Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez commended Egypt's steadfast stance during the Israeli conflict in Gaza, praising the historic bilateral relations between the two countries and highlighting the exceptional cooperation currently underway, particularly in the fields of health and medicine.

President Díaz-Canel made these remarks during a meeting with Ambassador Sherif Reda Shehata who presented his credentials at the Revolutionary Palace in Havana as Egypt's resident ambassador to Cuba, Egypt’s state-owned news agency MENA reported on Friday.

The Cuban President also lauded Egypt's solidarity in opposing the American blockade against Cuba, expressing his desire to strengthen cooperation further, particularly in economic and trade domains, building upon recent visits.

In response, Ambassador Shehata conveyed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's greetings to the Cuban President. He emphasized that President El-Sisi holds a message of appreciation and warmth for his Cuban counterpart, underscoring the strong bond between the two nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday that following the meeting with the Cuban President, the new ambassador laid a wreath at the monument of Cuban national hero Jose Martí.
