Egypt Green Hydrogen wins H2Global tender to supply renewable ammonia to EU

CAIRO – 12 July 2024: The Egyptian Suez Canal Economic Zone has announced the success of the "Egypt Green Hydrogen" project at the integrated industrial zone in Sokhna, winning a 397-million-euro contract in the H2Global tender. This contract is for supplying renewable ammonia to the European Union.

Renewable ammonia from Egypt will be supplied at a price of 1,000 euros per ton until 2033, produced using green hydrogen technology.

The H2Global is a foundation funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. According to the agreement, renewable ammonia will initially be supplied at a potential level of 19,500 tons in 2027. This volume could potentially increase to a total of 397,000 tons by 2033, with a fixed price of €1,000 per ton.

The Egypt Green Hydrogen consortium includes Fertiglobe, Scatec ASA, Orascom Construction, in participation with the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.

The "Egypt Green Hydrogen" project was inaugurated during the COP27 climate summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in November 2022, with an investment totaling $417 million. The project achieved a significant milestone by exporting the world's inaugural shipment of green ammonia to India in November 2023, following successful experimental production.
