CAIRO - 10 July 2024:  Israeli media said on Wednesday that Tel Aviv agreed in the Cairo meeting to control Palestinian parties - not from Hamas or the current Authority - over the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side, according to al Qahera news channel

The Israeli media, quoted senior officials, saying that “Israel is on the verge of reaching an agreement on the principles of a deal to release detainees in the Gaza Strip.”

The circulated reports also explained that Israel has requested guarantees from Washington that it can attack the Gaza Strip again if it is proven that ‘militants’ have returned to its northern regions.

A quartet meeting was expected to be held, Wednesday between the delegations of Egypt, the United States of America, Qatar, and Israel in Doha.

An informed source revealed that heads of Egyptian and American intelligence were leading their delegations at the meeting in Doha after intense discussions in Cairo.

A new round of Gaza ceasefire was held in Cairo on Thursday.

According to a security source, the Egyptian security delegation reiterated Tuesday Egypt’s firm positions on the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip.

The source explained that there is agreement on many points in light of the Egyptian security delegation’s continued efforts to bring viewpoints closer between all parties.

President Abdel Fattah al Sisi and Abbas Kamel, head of General Intelligence, received on Tuesday William Burns, head of the US Central Intelligence Agency, and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting dealt with developments in the regional situation and joint efforts to reach an agreement for calm and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Sisi reiterated the Egyptian position rejecting the continuation of military operations in the Strip, stressing the importance of the international community assuming its responsibilities to stop the war and ensure Palestinians’ access to sufficient aid relief to truly alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe there.
