CIA’s William Burns in Egypt to discuss Gaza ceasefire

CAIRO - 9 July 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Abbas Kamel, head of General Intelligence, received on Tuesday William Burns, head of the US Central Intelligence Agency, and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting dealt with developments in the regional situation and joint efforts to reach an agreement for calm and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. 

Sisi reiterated the Egyptian position rejecting the continuation of military operations in the Strip, stressing the importance of the international community assuming its responsibilities to stop the war and ensure Palestinians’ access to sufficient aid relief to truly alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe there.

Serious and effective steps to prevent the expansion of the conflict in the region need to be taken while working towards the two-state solution.
