CAIRO – 8 July 2024: Members of parliament described the House plenary session in which the new government is expected to discuss its program, Monday as a ‘historical’ one.
MP Ahmed El Segini, Chairman of the Local Administration Committee in the House of Representatives, said the awaited session which will be attended by the new government will be ‘historical’, wishing PM Mostafa Madbouly success and fulfillment of the hopes of the Egyptians.
He added in televised statements, there are many local files, such as, waste recycling, markets, random parking, building violations, encroachments on agricultural lands, and many other files waiting to be addressed by the new government.
Also, MP Hisham Al-Hosary, Chairman of the Agriculture Committee in the House of Representatives, said that the government will deliver its statement before Parliament, Monday after its formation is completed.
“This is an important day in the history of the Egyptian state,” Al-Hosary added.
Al-Hosary stressed his confidence in all ministers, describing them as “up to the responsibility in light of the very difficult challenges facing the Egyptian state and the aspirations of the Egyptian citizen to reduce the pressures on them, in light of the global changes that the whole world is witnessing.”
Counselor Mahmoud Fawzi, Minister of Parliamentary, Legal and Political Affairs, said that according to the 2014 Constitution, the President assigns the government its tasks, and the government prepares a program after taking the oath before the President, and requests the confidence of Parliament.
“20 days from the date of the government’s assignment to prepare its program, and 10 days for the House of Representatives to study the government’s program and then make a decision about the newly formed government and decide to give it confidence” Fawzi said.
He explained that PM Mostafa Madbouly will deliver during the plenary session general features of the government program, and he will present the government program to the Speaker of the Council in accordance with the internal regulations of the House of Representatives.
“Then, a special committee will be formed by the Council to study the government’s program, and a vote will be taken to grant confidence to the government so that it can begin its work,” the minster added.
Egypt’s new government, headed by Prime Minster Mostafa Madbouly, is expected to present its program to the House of Representatives during the plenary session, Monday, at the Council’s headquarters in the Administrative Capital.
During the session, Madbouly will deliver a statement on the new government program that was sworn in last week.
Premier Madbouly is also scheduled to deliver the entire program of the new government to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Hanafi Gebali.
On Wednesday, the largest ever cabinet reshuffle in Egyptian history has taken place after 24 new ministers took oath.
A total of 30 ministers holding 31 ministries took the oath before President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Only eight of the old cabinet remained in the government, two of whom had their ministries changed.
One of the new ministers was a lawmaker and another was a governor.
National and international expertise in the cabinet increased from 25% to 35%. The average age of ministers decreased from 64 years old to 56.
Ministers with military backgrounds decreased from 22 to 16.
