CAIRO – 6 July 2024: After a brief respite from the scorching temperatures in the past few days, it is time to brace yourselves for another round of heatwave in Egypt this week.

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has issued a warning that temperatures are set to rise by 2-3 degrees in most areas starting Tuesday.

Cairo and the Lower Egypt region of the lush Nile Delta are currently basking in a relatively comfortable 36 degrees Celsius during the day.

However, by next Wednesday, the mercury is expected to climb to a toasty 39 degrees.

Remember that temperature readings are taken in the shade, so when you factor in the humidity and sun exposure, it is going to feel even hotter.

In fact, brace yourselves for a feel-like temperature of 41 degrees in Cairo this week.

Trip to Alex?

Over on the northern coast, home to Alexandria and Matrouh, temperatures will reach a high of 34 degrees starting Wednesday.

Don't be fooled by those numbers. With the humidity, it will feel more like a sweltering 37 degrees.

Sharm and Dahab?

If you are planning a trip to the enchanting cities of Sharm El-Sheikh or Dahab in South Sinai, or if you find yourself in northern Upper Egypt, get ready to face the heat head-on.

Temperatures in these regions will soar above 41 degrees all day, and by the end of the week, they'll reach a scorching 43 degrees.

And yes, you guessed it, the apparent temperatures will make it feel even hotter than that.

Sizzling Luxor and Aswan

We cannot forget about southern Upper Egypt, where cities like Luxor and Aswan are already sizzling at 42 degrees.

As the week progresses, temperatures there will climb to a blistering 45-46 degrees.

Do your best to avoid heat stress -or even heatstroke- this week.

To beat the heat, make sure you stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.

Avoid direct sun exposure between 10 AM and 4 PM, and seek shade whenever possible.

It is also time to channel your inner fashionista by opting for lightweight clothing that will not trap as much heat. White clothing is your summer savior!

Here is a handy breakdown of the expected average temperatures across different regions in Egypt starting Wednesday, as forecasted by the EMA:

  • Cairo and Lower Egypt – Highs: 39, Apparent: 41
  • North Coast – Highs: 34, Apparent: 37
  • South Sinai – Highs: 42, Apparent: 44
  • Northern Upper Egypt – Highs: 42, Apparent: 43
