CAIRO – 6 July 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, during which the two leaders exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the new Hijri year, as reported by a statement from the Egyptian Presidency on Saturday.

Egypt's Dar Al-Ifta declared Saturday as the final day of Dhu Al-Hijjah 1445 after sighting the crescent.

The call also addressed the latest developments in the regional situation, with both leaders exchanging views on the seriousness of the escalating regional tensions. They emphasized the importance of preventing the escalation of conflicts and maintaining regional security and stability. Additionally, there was a strong emphasis on rejecting any attempts to undermine the Palestinian issue or displace Palestinians.

President Sisi affirmed Egypt's commitment to ongoing efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He also emphasized Egypt's dedication to ensuring the sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid in quantities sufficient to meet the needs of Palestinians. Concurrently, Egypt remains steadfast in advancing towards the implementation of a two-state solution, ultimately leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
