CAIRO – 5 July 2024: Foreign and Emigration Minister Badr Abdel Aati has congratulated David Lammy for being appointed as the new UK Foreign Secretary.

On his X account on Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Abdel Aati expressed readiness to continue fruitful cooperation between Egypt and the UK to strengthen bilateral ties and face regional and international challenges.

In a historic turn of events, Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, has emerged as Britain's next prime minister following a decisive victory in the general election.

The appointment was made official during an audience at Buckingham Palace, where King Charles III appointed Starmer to the position, indicating the transfer of power from the Conservative Party to Labour.

The Labour Party's triumph brings an end to 14 years of Conservative rule, which has been marked by periods of public discontent.

New UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer named Rachel Reeves as Britain's first female finance minister and Angela Rayner as his deputy on Friday (June 27) as he began putting together the team that will help him deliver on his promise to rebuild the country, The Star reported.

Starmer appointed David Lammy as Britain's new foreign minister and John Healey as defense minister, while Yvette Cooper becomes interior minister, known as home secretary, overseeing domestic security and policing.

Starmer has promised voters he will deliver change and provide political stability after 14 years of Conservative government, which has seen five prime ministers and an even higher turnover of other key ministers, including 10 education secretaries.
