CAIRO – 5 July 2024: Ghada Waly, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), has praised the Egyptian Navy for its efforts in countering crime and drugs along the nation's maritime borders.
Waly led a high-level delegation from the United Nations in a visit to the Egyptian naval forces, said Armed Forces' Spokesman Gharib Abdel Hafez in a statement on Friday.
Waly expressed her appreciation for the Egyptian Army's commitment to upholding national security.
The UN delegation conducted an inspection tour of several naval units at the Alexandria Naval Base to familiarize themselves with the advanced capabilities of the naval forces.
They were also briefed on the development of the naval forces and the missions they undertake to protect and secure Egypt's coasts and the economic regional waters.
Commander of the Egyptian Navy, Ashraf Atwa, was present at the reception.
Atwa commended the ongoing role played by the UNODC in preventing crimes and establishing effective criminal justice systems.
He also emphasized the support provided by the General Command of the Armed Forces in enhancing the naval forces' capabilities to carry out their duties efficiently and competently.
