CAIRO - 3 July 2024: New Minister of Justice Adnan Al-Fangari has officially assumed his duties after taking the constitutional oath before President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi Wednesday.
Fangari is one of the distinguished judges in Egypt and one of the defenders of the independence of judges. He was against the Constitutional Declaration of 2012, with which late President Mohamed Morsi attempted to consolidate judicial powers.
Fangary was born in Qena, Upper Egypt, in 1953. His most recent position was the head of the Alexandria Court of Appeal and a member of the Supreme Judicial Council since 2022.
Before assuming the presidency of the Alexandria Appeals Court, he served as head of the Beni Suef Court of Appeal and president of the Assiut Court of Appeal.
Fangari graduated from the Faculty of Law, Cairo University, then was appointed to the Public Prosecution, and began his progression into the prosecution service.
He has extensive judicial experience, in which he held many judicial positions, including the issuance of Republican Decree No. 271 of 2006 appointing him as Assistant Public Prosecutor. He was also seconded as Director of the Judicial Inspection of the Public Prosecution from 2006 until 2012.
