CAIRO – 1 July 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Monday Director General of Operations at the World Bank Anna Bjerde to discuss the repercussions of the crises in Gaza Strip and Sudan on humanitarian, economic, and political conditions.
The minister showcased the Egyptian stance on regional issues, and the country's role in establishing peace and security. In another context, he displayed the economic reforms carried out in Egypt, expressing aspiration for more support from the World Bank to development endeavors in light of the crises engulfing the world and the Middle East.
Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat stated in April that the World Bank was expected to disburse – in the second half of 2024 - to Egypt $1 billion out of the $6-billion funding it had pledged to the country.
The entire sum is set to be delivered over three years, and it will be split into two halves. One is for the governmental programmes, while the other is for the private sector.
