CAIRO – 28 June 2024: The mercury has soared to scorching 40 degrees nationwide this month, but fear not! Relief from the heatwave is on its way as early as tomorrow.

According to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA), temperatures are expected to decline by 1-3 degrees starting next week.

Cairo and Lower Egypt will experience a notable improvement in temperatures, finally dipping below the scorching 40-degree mark to a more manageable 37 degrees during the day.

Feels-like temperatures!

However, the EMA reminds us that their readings are taken in the shade, so keep in mind that humidity and sun exposure can make it feel even hotter.

The EMA also noted that the current high humidity levels in Egypt increase the apparent temperatures by 0-2 degrees.

Cooler refuge!

If you've had enough of the heat, the North Coast offers much better temperatures that will continue to improve, dropping to a pleasant 30 degrees by Sunday.

Southern Sinai, home to the charming city of Sharm El-Sheikh, and northern Upper Egypt will also experience some relief from the intense heat, with temperatures reaching 37-38 degrees by Sunday.

As for southern Upper Egypt, where Luxor and Aswan are located, temperatures won't drop below the 40s yet. However, they are expected to reach 41 degrees by Monday after hitting a scorching 45 degrees this week.

Unwanted guest

The heatwave is unwelcome news for everyone in the country.

It has led to extended power cuts and added another burden for Thanaweya Amma students as they prepare for their crucial exams.

Remember! Take precautions to avoid heat stress or heat stroke during these hot days.

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and limit direct sun exposure during the peak midday hours.

Lastly, opt for lightweight clothing that won't trap as much heat, and don't forget that white clothing can be your best friend in this scorching weather.

Here are the expected average temperatures for different regions in Egypt until Tuesday, as forecasted by the EMA:

- Cairo and Lower Egypt – Highs: 38, Apparent: 40

- North Coast – Highs: 30, Apparent: 33

- South Sinai – Highs: 39, Apparent: 42

- Northern Upper Egypt – Highs: 38, Apparent: 40

- Southern Upper Egypt – Highs: 42, Apparent: 43
