CAIRO – 26 June 2024: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan underlined on Wednesday the need to reach an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, warning of hazards of expanding cycle of current violence in the region on back of the latest Israeli-Lebanese escalation.

The two top diplomats warned of the grave consequences of any expansion of violence, saying things might come out of control.

This came in a phone contact held by Shoukry with Fidan. The contact tackled bilateral relations and arrangements for holding the first meeting of the high-level strategic council between Egypt and Turkey.

The two ministers exchanged viewpoints towards a number of regional and international issues, atop of which is the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

They underlined the need to guarantee the delivery of more humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip in a bid to ease the sufferings of civilians in Gaza who are facing harsh humanitarian conditions as a result of restrictions imposed by Israel on aid delivery.
