CAIRO - 12 June 2024: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received, on Wednesday, Simeon Oyono Esono Angue, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, who is currently visiting Cairo as part of the delegation accompanying the Vice President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
 
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the two ministers discussed the path to improving bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields, including the health and pharmaceutical fields, as well as enhancing the participation of Guinean cadres in the training courses organized by Egypt and the scholarships offered by the Egyptian universities. 
 
Both ministers further tackled ways of deepening trade and investment cooperation and continuing to build on the development, and the diversification that relations have witnessed recently were also discussed.
 
The Foreign Ministry spokesman explained that the meeting also discussed many topics of common interest, including the state of peace and security on the continent and coordination on African issues within the multilateral framework, especially in light of Egypt’s membership in the African Peace and Security Council.
 
The meeting also discussed the importance of exchanging support for nominations between the two sides in international and regional forums was also stressed, reflecting the special fraternal and solidarity relationship between the two countries.
 
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid added that the meeting also touched on developments in the Gaza Strip and the outcomes of the Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference in Gaza, where Minister Shoukry reaffirmed the importance of an immediate ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid, reviewing the efforts made by the Egyptian mediation in cooperation with Qatar in order to reach a truce agreement that allows the exchange of prisoners and detainees and the entry of aid, leading to a permanent ceasefire.
 
The Foreign Minister also appreciated Equatorial Guinea's position in support of the Palestinian cause and its contribution in providing grants and aid to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip through the Egyptian Red Crescent at this critical time that the brothers in Palestine are going through.
 
For his part, the Ecuatorian Minister stressed his country’s pride in its extended relations with Egypt, and its keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation and benefit from Egyptian expertise and capabilities in various fields, especially in the field of training and preparing diplomatic cadres, as a memorandum of understanding was signed during the visit between the Institute of Diplomatic Studies at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
The Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Diaspora also expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's continued support for development efforts in Equatorial Guinea, stressing his country's aspiration to advance bilateral cooperation frameworks in all sectors.
