President Sisi meets President of European Council

CAIRO – 11 June 2024: President Abdel Fattah al Sisi met with President of the European Council Charles Michel, on the sidelines of the international Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza Conference.

The Spokesman for the Presidency said the meeting confirmed the strength and depth of relations and the partnership between Egypt and the European Union, especially after relations have been elevated to the level of strategic and comprehensive partnership, opening the door to further strengthening cooperation in light of the common ties and interests that bring together the two sides.

The meeting reviewed the situation in the Middle East , especially developments in the Gaza Strip.

Both sides emphasized the importance of concerted efforts to reach a ceasefire and provide access to humanitarian aid in a sustainable manner to all areas of the Strip and warned of the catastrophic security and humanitarian repercussions resulting from the expansion of military operations in areas crowded with civilians.

The president of the European Council praised Egypt's mediation efforts, stressing European support for all efforts that would protect civilians and contribute to addressing the humanitarian crisis from which the people of the Gaza Strip suffer.

The two sides stressed the importance of uniting international efforts to implement the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, as the way towards achieving security and stability in the region, and the guarantee to prevent the reignition and expansion of the conflict in the future.
