CAIRO - 10 June 2024: Egypt welcomed the Security Council resolution calling for a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Egypt welcomed the resolution issued by the UN Security Council to support the deal to reach a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The statement also welcomed other terms included in the deal, like: the exchange of prisoners and detainees, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the safe return of displaced Palestinian citizens to their homes in the various areas of the Gaza Strip, as well as ensuring full access to humanitarian aid that meets the needs of the residents of the Gaza Strip.

The Arab Republic of Egypt renewed its call to Israel for the importance of complying with its obligations in accordance with the provisions of international law, and to stop the war it is waging against the Gaza Strip, in addition to stopping the killing and destruction it has caused that affected the Palestinians and the entire infrastructure in the Strip.

Egypt also called on both Israel and Hamas to take serious steps towards completing this deal as quickly as possible, and begin implementing its provisions without any delay or conditionality.

In connection with what was stated in the resolution regarding the Security Council’s commitment to the vision of a two-state solution in accordance with the decisions of international legitimacy, Egypt reaffirmed the necessity of a serious action to be taken by international parties to find the political horizon for implementing the two-state solution as it is the only guarantee for ending the crisis from its roots, supporting the pillars of stability and coexistence in the region, and establishing an independent Palestinian state with continuous territory on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, side by side with Israel.
