Cairo – 5 June 2024: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry had a phone call on Wednesday with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi on preparations for the Gaza emergency humanitarian response conference.

The conference, being jointly organized by Jordan, Egypt and the United Nations, will be hosted by Jordan at the Dead Sea on June 11.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, King Abdullah II, and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres invited world leaders, heads of government, and heads of international humanitarian and relief organizations.

In press statements, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said that the two ministers stressed the importance of the conference, which aims to come up with practical steps to guarantee immediate, and sustainable delivery of humanitarian and medical aid, and speed up the process of providing aid.

The two ministers also expressed their aspiration for the effective participation of the invited countries and organizations to ensure the achievement of the objectives of the conference, and the provision of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to the Palestinians who are suffering from an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe as a result of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7.

The conference includes three working groups whose discussions will focus on providing humanitarian aid to Gaza, overcoming challenges facing the delivery of humanitarian aid, and protecting civilians.
