Egypt, Iran FMs agree on maintaining consultations over bilateral relations

Cairo – 5 June 2024: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on Wednesday a phone call from acting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani during which the two top diplomats agreed on maintaining consultations over bilateral relations, ways of solving current crisis in Gaza and addressing regional and international challenges.

Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said the Iranian minister expressed appreciation for President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's condolences in the death of Iranian President.

He lauded Egypt's solidarity with Iran in this tragic ordeal.

The call also tackled ways of developing bilateral relations and addressing pending issues as a step on the road of returning relations between the two countries back to normal based on mutual respect and good neighborliness.

Situation in Gaza figured high during the talks as Shoukry expounded Egyptian-Qatari mediation efforts to reach a deal that would allow exchange of detainees, letting in humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in a bid to reach a lasting ceasefire and get Israeli forces out of the coastal enclave.
