CAIRO - 5 June 2024: Heba Ahmed, Director of the Operations Department at the Ministry of Labor, announced that the ministry has opened new job markets in EU and Balkan countries (Serbia, Romania, Greece, Cyprus).

She noted that many countries are seeking to attract Egyptian workers, especially skilled workers in the construction sector, with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates being among the most prominent.

In statements to the Middle East News Agency, Ahmed added that the ministry has provided a number of opportunities for those wishing to work abroad in accordance with international standards, salaries, and a suitable work environment for Egyptian workers, preserving their dignity. This is done in cooperation with labor representation offices and the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She explained that the ministry has succeeded in eliminating the phenomenon of labor brokers abroad by providing alternatives and legal means of employment, either by providing the ministry with job opportunities abroad or through labor attachment companies licensed to work abroad by the ministry.

These companies are under the full supervision and administrative and technical control of the ministry. She pointed out that it is easy to communicate with the ministry to verify the validity of the contract or the labor attachment company that provided the job opportunities for the worker.

She revealed that the ministry has made available on its official website data on labor attachment companies inside and outside the country that are licensed by the ministry, which is about 1400 licensed companies.

She noted that in case of any suspicion in the contract or a scam, the General Funds Administration at the Ministry of Interior is contacted to take the necessary action. Additionally, in the event that any advertisement is detected outside the official framework and after it is confirmed that the advertisement is fictitious, the matter is referred to the General Funds Administration Unit at the Ministry of Interior to take the necessary action.

Ahmed pointed out that the ministry provides a number of training programs for workers abroad before they travel. She explained that within the framework of the ministry's role in guiding, advising, and raising awareness among Egyptian workers, a "Pre-Departure Guidance" unit has been opened in the ministry's General Diwan.

This unit works to improve the level of fair and decent employment for Egyptian workers by guiding and advising those wishing to travel to work abroad on the appropriate ways to find job opportunities or guiding them on the requirements of the labor market and directing them towards training and developing the necessary skills to obtain a suitable job opportunity.

She stressed that this unit guides Egyptian workers who are completing the necessary procedures for departure to raise awareness of their rights and obligations towards the employer and emphasizes respect for laws and adherence to customs and regulations in foreign countries.

They are also introduced to the laws and customs of the destination countries and the most important procedures to be followed upon arrival.
